Behind the scenes with Argus OS™: our AI-enabled software for smarter robots in high-mix manufacturing

CTO Sidd Srivatsa walks you through the core features of our game-changing AI-enabled Argus OS™ software. Developed for high-mix manufacturers, Argus OS™ is integrated into every full turnkey system we ship, like the Smart Finishing™ Robotic Workcell for sanding, polishing, grinding, graining and more.

November 7, 2024

We built our AI-powered Argus OS™ from the ground up to offer numerous advantages for manufacturers, including:

  • Increased Productivity: Robotic workcells that embed our Argus OS™ supercharge your workforce and boost production, with increases of 30% or more.
  • Consistent Quality: Our systems can perform tasks with precision and consistency, resulting in higher quality products and fewer defects. Rework and scrap rates are reduced by 80% or more.
  • Enhanced Safety: By automating dangerous and repetitive tasks, our robotic workcells can help reduce workplace accidents and injuries by protecting workers from hazard exposure.
  • Greater Flexibility: Our robotic workcells can easily adapt to changes in SKU designs and process requirements, making manufacturing processes more flexible and responsive.

In the above video, CTO and Co-Founder Sidd Srivatsa reviews the core features of our software, included in every turnkey robotic workcell solution we ship. Using our smaller demonstration unit that includes a Universal Robots UR5e collaborative robot, we showcase the following capabilities:

  1. Automated scanning and part registration: We leverage AI and best-in-class industrial 3D camera technology with a robot-mounted setup. The robot arm moves the camera around to capture several perspectives of the work area. Our Argus OS perception module uses AI and onboard GPUs to quickly and accurately combine and parse millions of data points into a full view of the part or parts fixtured. We understand the part geometries, surfaces, and non-part objects in the field of view. A big benefit here for high-mix manufacturing is the ability to fixture part or parts anywhere in the work area, dramatically decreasing the complexity and costs of traditional high-precision fixturing solutions typically needed in automation. Parts are identified using 3D CAD models added to the system, or our live scan feature can be used when CAD data is not available. Most part geometries are supported, from flat to highly curved and contoured.
  2. Modern HMI: Our touchscreen interface creates a one-button job start capability. Operators and supervisors are able to tailor and tune the system parameters, add parts, customize process definitions, and set up jobs.
  3. Multi-part batch processing: Process multiple parts of the same SKU, or all different SKUs to keep your parts together on the shop floor and maintain your shop workflow.
  4. Various tooling options and configurations: We support the ability to set and select various tools in a job generation sequence, including DA sanders, graining finishers, buffing wheels, and right-angle grinders. Need a media progression or tool swap? We provide standard manual tool changing or seamlessly add automatic tool change support for less operator engagement.
  5. On-the-fly robot programming: Using operator-defined process parameters set in the job, we quickly generate efficient, collision-free robot motions to perform the desired application and finish.
