Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and highly-motivated senior mechanical engineer to be a key member of our growing multidisciplinary engineering team as we mature and deploy our robotic offerings to manufacturing customers.

At Cohesive Robotics, we’re building smarter robots to modernize manufacturing’s most common fabrication processes. We combine proven, industry-standard robotic arms with our proprietary Argus OS software stack to make it easier-than-ever for smaller manufacturers to automate tedious and hazardous tasks such as sanding and polishing.

We are seeking an experienced and highly-motivated senior mechanical engineer to be a key member of our growing multidisciplinary engineering team as we mature and deploy our robotic offerings to manufacturing customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Design custom parts, fixturing, and subassemblies for our cutting-edge turnkey robotic workcell products
  • Design and evaluate weldment framing assemblies for full lifecycle performance
  • Assemble and test mechanical and mechatronic systems
  • Perform FEA and physics simulations to evaluate solution performance
  • Fabricate parts and interface with vendors for component evaluation
  • Operate our robotic workcells to collect data and perform customer testing
  • Visit customer sites and inform product development roadmaps
  • Opportunity to mentor junior engineers and interns
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned as needed

Who You Are

  • 5+ years experience in industry with designing and shipping commercial products to industrial environments 
  • Bachelor’s (ABET-accredited) and/or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics or similar. 
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturing, component evaluation/selection and interfacing with vendors
  • Proficient with pneumatic system design for tooling, clamping and fixturing applications
  • Ability to prototype and fabricate parts using common machine shop equipment
  • Proficient in 3D CAD design software (Fusion 360 preferred)
  • Comfortable with rapid prototyping tools and workflows (e.g. 3D printing, lasercutting)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Able to work as a team player and as an individual contributor
  • Highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic
  • Passionate about robotics and eager to work in a startup environment

Nice to Haves

  • 2+ years manufacturing factory floor experience as manufacturing engineer, operator or similar
  • Familiarity with robot kinematics, coordinate frames, tuning of physical attributes in CAD 
  • Experience with designing and/or programming PLCs, industrial robots, mobile robots, or other mechatronic systems 
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts and applicable industry safety standards
  • Experience leading and growing a multidisciplinary product team.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Up to 25% time will be spent in a manufacturing environment requiring basic PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection). Other time spent in an office environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate and use shop equipment
  • Up to 25% travel possible
  • Hybrid work setup possible (at least three days per week in office mandatory)

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $75,000-$105,000 + equity stock options possible
